George - Joseph Ulric (Rick)
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Rick George of Janvrins Island on December 25, 2015 at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston with his family by his side. Born March 31, 1939 he was the son of the late Wallace and Charlotte Ann (Boudreau) George. Rick is survived by his loving wife, Mary (MacMillan) George, Janvrins Island; sons, Steve (Shelly), Shawn (Marielle), Erick (Triffany) and Dwayne (Amber); daughters, Kim (Terry), Wanda (Chris) and Wendy (Darren) all of Ontario; he is also survived by his stepchildren, Steven (Kristin) Edmonton, Alberta and Jennifer (Rick) St. Andrews; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews; Rick will be greatly missed by his sisters, Marie (Bernard) Fougere of Whiteside and Joann George of Louisdale; mother in law Catherine MacMillan, Port Hawkesbury and many brother and sister in laws. He was predeceased by a sister in infancy. At a very young age in 1956, Rick left home to join the Armed Forces and to serve his Country. He was a member of the Canadian Guards and over the next 10 years he served in both Germany and Cyprus with NATO in the special services. Upon leaving the Armed Forces, Rick and his family resided in Ontario, living in Sudbury and working in the Nickle Mines and later living in Toronto where he worked as foreman at Woodbridge Moulded. Rick returned to Janvrins Island in 1984 to live in his family homestead. He enjoyed the many things life had to offer over the years and one of his favorites was music. He loved to play the guitar and could even be heard singing a tune from time to time. Rick was also associated with many different bands over the years in one capacity or another. He enjoyed doing crosswords, traveling to yard sales, flea markets and just generally puttering around the house and yard for hours on end. He was an excellent cook and a past President of the Janvrins Island Community Center. For quite a few of the past years Rick and Mary looked forward to and traveled to the annual reunions of the Canadian Guards Division of the Armed Forces that he served with. In fact they hosted the 2015 Guards Reunion in Port Hawkesbury at Branch 43 Royal Canadian Legion. Rick is also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 in St, Peter's. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Unit, in particular Phobe, for their care and concern for us. We also want to send a very special thanks to Hope David-Boudreau and Nancy Cameron for all their kindness shown to us when we needed it most. A very special thank you also to Doctor Robert Martel for his thoughtfulness and caring most of all for the kindness he showed both Rick and Mary over this difficult time. Visitation will be held in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat on Wednesday December 30, 2015 from 3 - 8 P.M. A Celebration of Rick's life will be held on Thursday morning at 11 in Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Arichat with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in West Arichat. A reception will be held following the committal in the Acadiaville Hall in West Arichat.
