BRITTEN Daniel Joseph, 95 - Dartmouth
It is with saddened hearts that we have to announce the passing of Daniel Joseph Britten that occurred at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building QE11 in Halifax on May 21, 2016. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Henry Michael and Mary Virginie (Kiley) Britten. Daniel served in the second World War with the R.C.A.F. Air Crew Command C429 Squadron from 1943 - 1944 he also served on tour of the operation Bomber as a wireless air gunner in Leming Yorkshire England, returning to Canada in January of 1945 He served in the Merchant Navy on the Foundation Franklyn Tugboat for 10 months during the war, he did 1 tour and 31 trips on the Halifax bombers.. He remained in Canada till V.E. Day (Victory over Europe). He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Scotia Branch 25, Halifax, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150 Isle Madame, the Canadian Forces Association, the Shearwater 111 Micmac Wing and was a volunteer at the Camp Hill Veterans Hospital QE11 in Halifax from 1985 - 1998. He is survived by his wife the former Patricia Elizabeth LeBlanc, Dartmouth; daughters, Barbara McDonald (Dave), Milton, Ont., Linda McDonald (Jim Dowling), Halifax, Cynthia Mellis (Andy), Comex, BC, Angela Britten (Michel Belanger), Gatineau, QC; sons, Ronald (Aimee), Ottawa, Daniel Jr. and David, both of Dartmouth; several grand and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Eleanor Lovelace and Edith Flaherty; one brother in infancy. Visitation will be held in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home 633 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Arichat on Thursday from 7-9 pm and on Friday afternoon from 12 -1:30. Funeral Mass will be held Friday afternoon at 2 pm in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Legion tribute will be held by Isle Madame Branch 150 RCL. Burial to follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery in D'Escousse. A reception will be held following the committal at the D'Escousse Civic Improvement Hall.
