Obituary of Leonard Joseph Burke

BURKE, Leonard Joseph It is with sadness that we have to announce the death of Leonard Joseph Burke, age 83, of River Bourgeois that occurred in Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston on June 5th,2016. Born in South River Bourgeois, he was a son of the late Harry and Clara (Fougere) Bourque. Leonard loved playing horseshoes and playing a good game of cards at home. Although he was a bit of a cheater at playing, it was all in fun. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Cecelia (Sampson) Burke; sons, Jerry, at home; Blair (Lydia), Dartmouth; the love of his life, his granddaughter, Tanna Burke, Dartmouth; brothers, Martin, Canso; Raymond (Shirley), Lower Sackville; Albert (Marlaine), River Bourgeois; sisters, Lillian Gerrior(Howard), Charlos Cove; Dorothy Burke, River Bourgeois; Eva Owens (Billy), St.Peters; Yvonne Geraldi, Montreal; Sister Helen Burke, Riverview, N.B.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Ennis and Arthur. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Baptist Church in River Bourgeois on Saturday, June 11th at 1 p.m. with Rev. Antolin Asur officiating. Burial to follow in St. John the Baptist Parish Cemetery in River Bourgeois. A reception will be held in Tara Lynn Community Centre in River Bourgeois. Memorial donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society, St. John the Baptist C.W.L. or to St. John the Baptist Cemetery Fund. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society especially Nancy Cameron and Dr. Cooper for the dedicated care that was given to Leonard during his stay at the hospital.
