Obituary of Donald Joseph Burke

Burke, Donald Joseph, 82 Custom Crescent, Sydney, passed away January 10, 2010 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Poulamon, he was the son of the late John and Mary Octav (Fougere) Burke. Donald was employed with Sydney Steel Corp. for 39 years. His interests included spending time with his family and friends, many nights on the boardwalk, and his love for scratch tickets. Surviving are his sons, Donnie (Melissa), Ontario, Shaun (Leigh-Ann), Sydney; daughters, Diane Marchand (Donald), Pauline Gillis (Frank), both of Lower Sackville; daughter-in-law Alice Burke, Antigonish; brother, Oscar, Sydney; 10 grandchildren,; 1 step-grandson and 2 great-grandsons. Donald was predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine (Marchand) Burke; son Vincent; brothers, Henry, Edward, Emery, Godfrey, Philias, Cletus; sisters, Audrey and Margaret in infancy. You will be forever missed and never forgotten by your family and friends and companion Dorothy. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 - 9pm in Chant's Funeral Home,564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from where his body will be transferred to the St. Louis Church in Louisdale with visitation on Thursday morning from 10 am until time of funeral mass that will be held at 11 am. Burial to follow in St. Louis Parish Cemetery, Louisdale. Memorial donations can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center Patient Care Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.
