Obituary of Isaac Joseph Matthews

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Isaac Joseph Matthews announces his sudden passing on March 23, 2011, at his home in Ottawa, Ontario. Isaac was born on February 15, 1976 in Antigonish, N.S. to Ruth Matthews, Louisdale and the late Carl Sampson. Formerly of Louisdale, he graduated from Isle Madame District High School and St. Francis Xavier University. He was presently employed with Elections Canada. He was an avid sportsman enjoying hockey, golf, hunting and fishing. Family was one of the utmost importance to Isaac. He had a great sense of humour and practical jokes and pranks were frequent occurrences, at the expense of his many relatives. Besides his mother he is survived by his brother, Joey Sampson (Anita) and niece Ashley, Halifax; step-father, William "Dilly" MacRae, Louisdale; paternal grandmother Irene (Burns) Sampson, Louisdale; step-brother, Blair (Linda) MacRae, NB; step-sisters, Lisa (Carl) Martell, Grand Anse, Fonda (Robbie) Wyre, West Bay; god-child Bryson Wyre, West Bay; aunts Anne-Mae and Uncle Isaac MacInnis, Sky Glenn, Aunt Joan Bona (Lucien) Louisdale. He is also survived by chosen special parents, Emily Matthews Burns and LLoyd (Sharon) Burns both of Louisdale and chosen/special brothers, Chris Burns, Louisdale and Evan Mazur, Sydney; godfather Merlin Boudreau, Louisdale; aunts, Bernice Pringle, Kempt Road, Irene MacInnis River Bourgeois, Helen Rehberg (David), St. George's Channel; Judy Matthews (George), Sydney Uncles Jackie Matthews (Jules), West Bay, Duncan Matthews (Marlene) Louisdale, George Matthews (Florence), Grand Anse, Gerald Matthews. Halifax, Brian Matthews (Debbie), Long Stretch Road and Willie Sampson Saint John NB and numerous cousins. Isaac was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Frank and Hilda Matthews, paternal grandfather, Paul Sampson, uncle Charlie, aunts Ethel and Georgina Rose, and cousins, Kerwin LeBlanc, Darrell MacInnis and Joey MacDonald, special and chosen sister Aimee Lee Burns; god-mother Brenda Boudreau; Visitation will be held in River Bourgeois Community Funeral Home in River Bourgeois on Tuesday from 4 - 9pm. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11am in St Louis Parish, Louisdale with Rev Angus MacDougall and Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Black River United Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
