Obituary of Daniel Robert Latimer
LATIMER, Daniel Robert -66- Petit de Grat
We are heartbroken to announce the death of Daniel “Danny” Robert Latimer, 66, after a hard-fought battle with cancer, at Strait Richmond Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends on April 12, 2018. The Red Man will be remembered for his dry humor, nutty antics, dedicated work ethic, prominent stubborn streak, extensive repertoire of nursery rhymes and songs, and most importantly, the kindness he showed to others. Even after his death, he was a donor who was able to give the gift of sight.
Dad had a huge circle of friends that reached coast to coast from his many years of working at home and away. Dad was a journeyman carpenter, a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners, Local 1588, since 1971, and a member of the Richmond County Wildlife Association. His love of the outdoors took him on many adventures hunting and fishing with his buddies. He spent much of his free time with his best friend Charlie (Karen) Doyle scouting for deer in the Danger Ranger, or getting up to no good. One of his greatest joys was helping to organize and bring his grandkids to the annual John Boudreau Memorial Fishing Derby. Dad also adored his grandbabies and could often be found hanging out at cheer competitions with Roz, shooting BBs with Miles Smiles, or snuggling with Evi watching YouTube videos.
Left to miss him forever are his wife of 42 years, Linda (David), Petit de Grat, his daughter, Cheryl (Eric Malcolm), Truro, and his three grandbabies, Roslyn, Miles and Evelyn, He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Pearl (Bernie) Lamey, Nackawic, NB, Ann (Phil), Arichat, Martin (Sheila), Port Hawkesbury, and David (Wendy), Dartmouth, brother-in-law, Ronnie (Bonnie) David, Arichat, his niece and nephews, Blair, Blaine (godson), Nicole, Craig, Robert (godson), Evan, Dylan, and his goddaughter, Lynn (Andre) LeBlanc.
Dad not only opened his heart to others, but he opened his home (along with Mom) as a foster parent, and had a special relationship with everyone who came through our doors. He has been reunited in heaven with Steven Sampson, and will be especially missed by Shanon (Danielle) Gloade, and Amanda Bagley.
Along with his parents, Robert and Mary Dorothy (Doyle) Latimer, of Grandique Road, Arichat, he was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Robert (in infancy), his in-laws, Elzear and Blanche (Middleton) David, and his special boy, Oaklee Bagley.
We would like to thank Dr. Bob Martel, the Palliative care team, the staff at Strait Richmond Hospital, the neighbors from “The Strip”, and every single person who has accompanied us through this journey. You all hold a very special place in our hearts. In memory of Dad, please perform a random act of kindness for #TheRedMan, and memorial donations may be made to your local food bank.
There will be no visitation per request. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, April 17th in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Arichat at 11:00am with Rev. Michel Exalant officiating. Reception will follow the mass in New Horizon Seniors Club, Arichat. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd, Arichat.
