Obituary of Daniel Joseph Marchand

MARCHAND, Daniel Joseph, age 93 -Halifax/Louisdale

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loved father, father-in-law and adored papa, Danny Marchand on April 29, 2018 at his residence in Northwood Manor, Halifax, N.S. He was born in Louisdale on December 10, 1924 to the late William and Evangeline (Boudreau) Marchand. At a young age he joined the Army then settled in Halifax where he married his beloved wife Mary and raised his 4 children. After 39 years of service, Danny retired from the C.N.R. as a freight loader and checker. Upon his retirement he moved to Louisdale where he enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting and gardening. Danny was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 St. Peter's. 

Danny is survived by his daughter Shirley; sons Donald (Giselle), Jerry (Laura), David (Barbara); 4 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; siblings Cornelious, Willie, Priscilla and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years Mary Leona; siblings Lawrence, Anthony, Celina, Irene, Maude, Catherine, Theresa, Raymond and Leo in infancy.

We are truly grateful for the care and compassion he and the family received during his stay at the Northwood Manor.

Visitation will take place on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Glen Sampson Room in Louisdale.  A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday morning at 11 am in the St. Louis Church in Louisdale with Rev. Joe MacKenzie presiding. Burial to follow in the St. Louis Parish Cemetery, Louisdale. Reception to follow the burial in St. Louis Parish Hall in Louisdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Louis Parish Renovation Fund, the Strait Richmond Hospital or to the charity of one’s choice.
