Obituary of Rosemary Marshall
Rosemary Marshall, age 65, of Potlotek, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at her home in Potlotek with her loving family by her side. Born Nov. 24, 1953, to the late Thomas Alexander and Pauline Marie (Battiste) Marshall (of Potlotek). Rosemary was a Mi’Kmaw Kina’matnewey Language Advisor and a Language Mentor in the Mentor for Apprentice Project at Mi’Kmaw Kina’matnewey. Employed as a Mi’kmaw Linquist at the Potlotek Education office. She was a recorded voice on firstvoices.ca. Rosemary devoted her career to language revitalization. She worked on many projects that promoted documented language and worked at the Potlotek First Nations for 42 years. She was very strong in her faith and became a Community Prayer Leader in Potlotek. She will truly be missed by everyone who had the opportunity of knowing her. She is survived by her daughters, Pauline Marshall (Tyson), Nora Mae Marshall); sons, Aaron, Special son, Will; grandchildren, Jacen Brady and Coby John, all of Potlotek; brothers, Alexander (Margie), Maynard (Jeannette), Lindsay (Florence) all of Potlotek; sisters, Nora Bernard, Eskasoni, Bernadette Marshall and Sharon Marshall both of Polotek. She is also survived by her god mother Agnes “Aggie”; uncle Valerian Marshall “Smokey”; god children, Justin, Tena and Aysa, all of Potlotek; step children; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Clifford, Gary “Koli”, Stephen “Stevo”, Russell; sisters, Norbertta, Elizabeth; godson, Alexander “Kwis”. Visitation will take place 4 p.m. Monday, December 17th until Wednesday morning December 19th at 9:30am at the home of her sister, Bernadette Marshall at 66 Mountain Road in Potlotek. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, Dec. 19th at 10:30am, in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Peter’s, with Rev. Antolin Asor preceding. Burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Barra Head. A Salite and meal will be held at Potlotek Community Hall following the committal.
