It is with a heavy heart that the children of Lorna George of Arichat, announce her passing on December 18, 2018 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish. Lorna lived a long life of 91 years. She was dedicated to her family and community. During her life she worked in various occupations; teacher, hospital worker, doctor’s receptionist and Statistician for Stats Canada. Lorna was devoted to her family, faith and the community. She was instrumental in founding the OLA Catholic Lady’s Group, was a long-time school board member/trustee and played a significant role in the establishment of Isle Madame District High School. Lorna was well known as a volunteer for the CNIB and Arthritis Society. Her support for health care in the region was of personal importance to her. During her time as a board member she held various positions including Chairman and worked tirelessly to secure St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Centre with its emergency care facilities. St. Anne’s held a special place in her heart. She leaves behind her six children: Noreen Brennan (John) of Fredericton, NB; Elaine Boudreau (Odilon), Arichat, NS; Lloyd George (Johanna), West Bay, NS; Arlene Hillier (Lloyd), Urbania, NS; Geralyn Thornhill (Frank), Brooklin, ON; Imelda George, Arichat. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Lorna was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Willard George; daughter Ruth Esther in infancy; sisters Edna, Roma and Norma; brothers, Frank, Carl and Ralph. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and the youngest.
Visitation will be held in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, 633 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Arichat on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9pm. Mass of Christian Farewell will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat on Friday afternoon at 2pm with Rev. Michel Exalant presiding. Burial to follow in Our Lady of Assumption Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Annes Community Nursing Center, the OLA Building Fund or charity of choice.
