Obituary of Alexander Marshall
MARSHALL, Alexander – Eskasoni/Potlotek
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander Marshall, age 69 of Eskasoni formerly of Potlotek, who passed away peacefully on December 5, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney. Born October 17, 1950, in Potlotek, he was the son of the late Thomas Alexander and Pauline Marie (Battiste) Marshall.
Alexander’s careers included jobs such as an acting chief, band councillor for 16 years, blueberry leaseholder in Maine, potato harvester, membership clerk, firefighter, addictions counselor for 30 plus years. He loved traveling especially to the state of Maine, Quebec and wherever his car could take him. He enjoyed doing crosswords and reading the newspaper every single day. Wise… a mentor … Funny… giving. Loved cooking especially wild game and all fish. Family was everything.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife Mary Margaret “Margie” (Francis) Marshall, Eskasoni; daughters Nancy Marshall, Millbrook, Veronica Bernard (Ty), Potlotek, step-daughter Annie Jane Marshall (Christopher Paul) Eskasoni; sons, Alan Marshall (Terra), Vernon Marshall, both of Potlotek, step-sons Kenneth Francis (Mary Anne), Eskasoni, Pius Marshall (Michelle), P.E.I., Lloyd Marshall (Judina, Andrew Marshall (Mindy), both of Eskasoni, Joe P. Marshall (Clara),Shubenacadie, Stephen Marshall, Winston Marshall both of Potlotek; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Maynard Marshall (Jeannette), Lindsay Marshall (Florence), both of Potlotek; sisters Nora Bernard (Andrew), Eskasoni, Bernadette Marshall, Sharon Marshall both of Potlotek. Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by his sons Alexander “Kwis”, Gerry Marshall, daughters Alexis Sapier, Mary Marshall; step-son Duran Christmas brothers Clifford, Gary “Koli”, Stephen “Stevo”, Russell; sisters Norbretta, Elizabeth, Rosemary. Visitation will take place at the home of his daughter Veronica, 44 Mountain Rd, Potlotek from Tuesday, December 10th at 5 p.m. until Thursday, December 12th at 9:30 a.m. Funeral mass to celebrate the life of Alex will be held in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Peter’s on Thursday, December 12th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Yake presiding. Burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Barra Head. A Salite and meal will be held at the Potlotek Community Centre following the committal.
