Obituary of Marie Sophie Richard

RICHARD, Marie Sophie-92, of Arichat It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Sophie Richard, age 92 years,that occurred at her home in Arichat on December 17th, 2020. Born August 4, 1928 in Reserve Mines, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Damien and Alice (Cormier) Cormier. Raised in St. Joseph’s DeMoine, where she spent many enjoyable years attending all the Mi-Careme’s with her family and friends. In all of her years of attending the Mi-Careme’s, Sophie only missed one year. She loved fiddle music, dancing and Acadian culture as a whole. She also loved playing the spoons and enjoyed her many visits to St. Anne Community & Nursing Care Centre in Arichat with various entertainer’s, where they entertained the residences. Sophie is survived by her children Lucille (Cameron) Landry and grandchildren Alissa, Joshua, with whom she lived with in Arichat, Marcel (Murielle) Richard, Rene Richard, both of Arichat, Yvette (Freeman Jr.) Skinner, Arichat, Denise (Emmanuel) Leamon, Sydney Mines; grandchildren Eric, Chris, Michelle, Sheri, Collette, April, Patricia, Jeremy, Frances; great grandchildren Tyler, Dustin, Chase, Caden, Brooklyn, Keira, Shilah, Asher, Erica, Mia, Ava Jae, Sophia, Kelly-Ann and Alexandre; sister Zoé Shinner, Halifax. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jean Baptiste Richard; daughter Claudette (Graham) MacDonald and brother Joseph Henri Cormier. Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 social distancing and regulations, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Our Lady of Assumption Cemetery, Arichat. Memorial donations can be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. A special thank you to Dr. Stephen DeRoche, Continuing Care Nursing Port Hawkesbury, Adelle, Paula, Jackie and Rachel, VON-Richmond County Home Support. Also, to EHS Paramedics, especially Lynn Delorey and Rod Samson for the dedicated caring service that they provided to Sophie. Your kindness will forever be remembered.
