It is with heavy hearts that we the family must announce the passing of Dominique Alcide Landry of Petit de Grat NS, on December 29 at the age of 95, which occurred at St. Anne’s Centre in Arichat. A beloved husband, father, father-in-law, pépé and grand-pépé. He was the last surviving member of his family, son of Josephine (Minnie Boudreau) and Leo Landry of Petit de Grat. He is survived by his loving wife Nora (Samson) Landry, daughters Debbie (Nap) Boudreau, Jean (Wendell) Day; sons Douglas (Donna) Landry, Darryl (Darlene) Landry, Gerry (Shelley) Landry; his precious grandchildren Nathan (Amber), Priscilla, Alyssha, Brandon, Amber, Morgan, Jeric (Tasha), Dominique, Alex, and great one grandchild Reid with second one underway. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Marie (Arthur) Samson, Valerie Landry, Claire Samson; brothers-in-law Theophile (Lucille) Samson and Gerry (Linda) Samson. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters, Gladys Thibeau and Edna Samson; brothers Martin, Lenus, Arthur, Vincent, Edward, Willie, and Charles; brothers-in-law Clarence Landry, Eugene Samson, Bernard Thibeau, and Lawrence Samson; sisters-in-law Delta Landry, Jeanette Landry, Mary Landry, Rita Landry, Eileen Landry. He was also predeceased by his mother & father-in-law Bertha and Theophile Samson. He was a proud Merchant Mariner, Veteran, and Lifetime Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #150 in Arichat. His comrades at the legion were also part of his family. We would like to thank President of the Legion Donald Goyetche and all Legion members past and present for all their kindness over many years. Your kindness will forever be in our hearts. A dedicated sailor for over 43 years spending over 27 years on the M/V Maplebranch. He worked as a Marine engineer on ships until he retired in 1983. Dad had a heart of gold. He was always ready and willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He was known as Mr. Fix-it because he had the ability to find a solution to fix anything and usually had the part you needed or something that would fit. Later in years when they invented glue guns and duck-tape he found many new uses and often shared his ideas and creations. He was a great storyteller and always enjoyed telling stories of the older days. He also loved a good sea story and once you sat down with him and let the lines go he could take you to many ports all over the world with stories. Dad always loved a good laughing and prank. He was known to have played a few (OK many many) and we are sure some are yet to be found. In the days living in his own home, he could always be seen tinkering in the yard, Some people would say, “You know spring has arrived when you see Alcide putting a fresh coat of paint on everything outside”. He also enjoyed a good game of cards with anyone who had the time and loved teasing when he gave someone a skunk at Crib. He had his skunk trophy always on Stand-by. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd. in Arichat, or Friday, June 24, 2022 from 6-8 PM. Funeral Mass to Celebrate the Life of Alcide will be held Saturday, June 25th at 11 AM in St Josephs Church in Petit de Grat with Rev. John DeCoste officiating, followed by a Legion Tribute.
