It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph Rudolph Martell our dear father, spouse, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend of Samson`s Cove, that occurred at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney on October 23, 2022. Born October 29, 1937 in Samson’s Cove, Rudolph was the son of the late Thomas and Rose (Samson) Martell of Samson`s Cove. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by infant son John Rudolph; twin sisters Catherine and Jeanne, and nephews Francis and Welby, brothers Theophile, Amédée, and Cyril. Rudolph is survived by his loving wife Doris (Boudreau) Martell of 63 years; daughters Mary Anne (Gary) David, Petit de Grat, and Wanda Hearn (Sheldon MacPhee), Poirierville; son Russell Martell (Jessica Bowen), Samson`s Cove; grandchildren, Jason, Dawn, Jalisa, Alexa, Brooklyn, Tori, Paige, and Riley; great grandchildren Emily, Oscar, Rose, and Sage; brothers Leon (Anne) Martell, Arichat, and Donnie (Darlene) Martell, Grandique Rd; sisters Delia Dugas, West Arichat, Therese David, Arichat, and Jean d’Arc (Carl) Samson, Louisdale and numerous nieces and nephews; all of whom he dearly loved. Rudolph was an avid lobster fisherman who shared his passion and knowledge of fishing with his beloved son Russell. In his younger years he worked as a finished carpenter at Pulp mill, Steel Plant in Sydney, Zephun Brothers Construction and belonged to the United Carpenter & Joiners of America Union Local 1588. In retirement, Rudolph took pleasure in going down to the Bait Shed with his grandchildren assisting in all tasks that needed to be done. He also enjoyed celebrating special occasions with his large loving family and was always the first to volunteer to wash dishes after the meal. He was known for his sense of humour, compassion, and kindness to all which he and his wife instilled in their children. He loved to dance round dances with his loving wife which he also taught to his daughters and granddaughters. We will miss him dearly. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation per request. Funeral mass to Celebrate the Life of Rudolph will be held Saturday, October 29th at 11 am in St. Josephs Church, Petit de Grat, with Rev. John DeCoste officiating, Masks are recommended. A private family burial will occur in the Star of the Sea Cemetery, Petit de Grat. A reception will be held at Little Anse Social Action Centre for family and close friends following the committal. Memorial donations may be made to Cape Breton Regional Patient Palliative Care Unit, Sydney, NS. Tributes, words of comfort, and memories of Rudolph may be shared with the family at www.chboudreau.com. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd, in Arichat.
