Clannon, James Benedict “Ben” 1946-2022
It is with broken hearts that our family announces the passing of James Benedict “Ben” Clannon our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on December 8th, 2022 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish. He was the son of the late Joseph George and Mary Loretta (Samson) Clannon.
Ben is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Claire (David) Clannon; sons Brian (Monica) and Carey; daughter June (Jacques); grandchildren Cassandra (Aaron), Brianna (David), Réal and Laura; great grandchild Aric. He is also survived by his brother Gerard (Lorna); sisters Brenda (Doug), Clair (Donnie); brothers-in-law John (Claire), Cecil (Jean), Huntley (Pat) and Randy; sisters-in-law; Nancy (Julien), Noreen (Charles), Judy (Gary), Wanda (Kenny), Donalda (René), Monica, Bernadette, Betty and his nieces and nephews and many friends.
Besides his parents, Ben was predeceased by his brother Garvey, sister Marie, as well as his parents-in-law Arthur and Agnes, his brothers-in-law Blaise, Hubert, Bobby, and sister-in-law Carmella.
Ben was always a very hard worker, in his early years he worked as a cook on the fishing trawlers then as a fisherman and industrial painter. Ben loved to joke and tease, a natural joker he sometimes lacked a filter! Ben loved to cook for others, and always shared his trout, blueberries, and cranberries. His generosity led to some of best feeds of scallops, lobster, and crab especially when the kids were down visiting. Ben loved playing cards, camping, fishing, country music, dancing, going for a spin to chat with his friends, “coaching” the Blue Jays, napping in his Lazy Boy chair, carving decoys, and tying flies.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital’s Stroke and Palliative Care units for their compassionate care during his time there.
Cremation has taken place. There is no visitation per request. A celebration of his life will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Petit De Grat on Wednesday, December 14th at 11:00 am with Reverend John DeCoste officiating. Burial to follow in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Petit De Grat. A reception will be held at the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall in Petit De Grat following the burial. Memorial donations can be made to the Isle Madame Small Options Resident’s Activity Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd in Arichat.
