MARSHALL, John Darryl, Potlotek
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Darryl that occurred suddenly at home on February 11th, 2023 at the age of 50 years. Born on March 27, 1972, he was the son of Carol (Johnson) Marshal, Potlotek, and the late Bernard Russell Marshall Sr.
John Darryl Marshall was a man of many hats, but his most dedicated role was being a father and grandfather. He provided for his family and community by being a captain and asserting Mi’kmaw Rights. John was a generous man; he shared his wealth and love with so many. He was an active advocate for the Mi’kmaw language and Treaty Rights, he was proud of his children for having their first language as Mi’kmaw. Through the guidance of spiritual leaders, he shared the ceremony and song with his family and taught another way of prayer. He was a Potlotek Legend within the fastpitch and hockey circuits and coached women’s fastpitch where they would win tournaments with his leadership. The Toronto Maple Leaf fan would frequently travel down south with his loved ones to enjoy the many cultures. His brother Alex Ji’j introduced him to scuba diving in his earlier years and they would share many ocean adventures together which he truly enjoyed. John was highly respected and loved by his children and grandchildren, his nieces and nephews and he made them all feel special in their own ways. John Darryl was protective, caring, and loving to his parents. John was handsome, always fashionable, and forever the life of party.
John is survived by his loving mother Carol Marshall; children, Samantha Carter (Jeremy), Haven Stevens (Bryson) and Joady Marshall, Dallas Johnson; grandchildren, Ariah Lakyn Stevens, Brydon Knox Gould, and Bryce Charles John Gould; siblings, Thomas “Alex Jij” (Carole Ann), Laurie (Ian), James “Rod”, Scottie; special Brothers, Derek (Sharon), and Dawb Marshall; Godchildren, Kennady, Chase, Brittany, and Kiana; Many nieces and nephews; Also survived by his best friend Rose, Paqtnkek.
