Obituary of Anna Marcelline Landry
Please share a memory of Anna Marcelline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with bittersweet sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Anna Landry (nee Jeffrey) on June 14, 2023 at the age of 89. We are saddened to not see, hear, or hug her anymore, however, thankful that she is now at peace enjoying her family and friends that have passed before her.
Mom was born on July 25, 1933, to Mary (Stoj) and Leonard Jeffrey of Louisdale, NS. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Gordon MacLean; her siblings, Dorothy Marchand, Josephine Burke, and Alice Marchand; her brothers, Leonard, Edward, and Raymond.
She is survived by her children Allister (Valerie), Darryl, and Lisa; grandchildren Briana, Alyssa, and Ethan; great-grandchild, Hayden; brothers, Johnny (Mildred) Jeffrey, Chester Jeffrey, Frances (Ann) Jeffrey; sister, Stella Sampson; many nieces and nephews.
Mom’s love for family and music was beyond measure. She showed her love and devotion to her family through her beautiful smile, sense of humour, delicious home-cooked meals, and a welcoming home where many kitchen parties were held.
Spending time with her children was Mom’s greatest pleasure. Performing with Darryl at gatherings brought such joy to Mom and he always made sure it happened. She never missed a chance to dance, especially two-stepping or jiving with Lisa. And having Allister and Valerie living next door was always a comfort. Mom adored her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Her love for music was nurtured at a young age by her parents and siblings. Mom had a beautiful singing voice that was recognized as a teenager. She joined the Gene Hooper band and sang at community events in Nova Scotia and PEI as well as live radio. Throughout her life, the singing continued at many family gatherings.
Mom was always up for an adventure without hesitation when Lisa called. She enjoyed travelling to the Caribbean where she loved sitting on a sandy beach soaking up the sun. One of her most cherished trips was to Nashville where she toured the Grand Ole Opry, Mom could sing along to so many country tunes. Without a doubt, Mom is singing and dancing all the way to Heaven where her loved ones will be waiting for her with open arms.
Mom moved to the RK Nursing Home in Antigonish about 4 years ago due to progressive Dementia. She became well-known there for her singing, sense of humour and love of fashion. Thank you to Mom’s caregivers at the RK Nursing Home. Mom received very good care from everyone at the home, however, she had one person who took care of her from the beginning to the end of her time there. Madeline, we are forever grateful for your kindness, and care and for being a constant to Mom throughout the past 4 years.
Prior to moving into the nursing home, Mom was able to remain in her home for a couple of more years because of the live-in care provided to her by her niece, Bonnie Marchand. Special thanks to Bonnie, we truly appreciate the love and support you gave to Mom.
Having a large extended family presence in Louisdale provided additional support in Mom’s care. There are too many to mention but know that we feel blessed to call you family.
We believe Mom’s life embodied this Irish proverb and we could all heed her example.
”Dance as if no one were watching. Sing as if no one were listening. And live every day as if it were your last.”
Rest in Peace Mom
