Please share a memory of Marie Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie (Bowen) DeWolf, 74, Arichat -
It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of our mother, Marie DeWolf, at home on Friday, July 5th.
In her life, Marie had been a devoted wife, endlessly supportive and loving mother, spoiling “Nanny,” caring sister, loyal friend, generous aunt, dedicated employee, meticulous list-maker, cruise-taker, and, from time to time, a fiery redhead.
She is survived by two extremely lucky children, Peter (Amy) and Sandy (Paul); absolutely adored granddaughters, Ally and Priya; sisters-in-law Catherine Bowen, Joan DeWolf, Catherine DeWolf, Rose Booth, Mary Poirier and Susan Hines-Bowen; brothers-in-law Joseph DeWolf, and Edwin DeWolf; many nieces and nephews, special friends, and a much loved border collie, Tut.
Marie was predeceased by beloved husband Bob; parents Hilary and Kathleen Bowen; brothers Vernie and George; sisters-in-law Elizabeth (DeWolf) Brooks and Thomas “Tommy” DeWolf; brothers-in-law Keith Booth, Russell Poirier; and sister-in-law Patricia “Patsy” DeWolf.
Marie was well known for taking in strays. Animals… people. It’s telling, and wonderful that we’ve been interrupted while writing this to read messages from people telling us how well she treated them over the years.
Marie dedicated her life to helping others, spending many years as Co-Chair of the Arichat Relay for Life, helping organize numerous Lennox Passage Yacht Club Harbourfests, as well as spearheading many other fundraising activities and community events. She was very generous with volunteering her time… and with volunteering her family’s time.
She was a mother to the community and beyond, and a world-class spoiler of everyone around her. She’ll be incredibly missed.
We like to imagine Bob waiting for her at the Pearly Gates in the sailboat, ready to sail them off into the Lennox Passage sunset.
Cremation has already taken place and there’ll be no visitation. A celebration of a wonderful life will be held at a future date.
