Obituary of Alan Frederick Field

Alan Frederick Field, 74, of Louisdale, passed away peacefully on Friday July 19, 2013, at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston. Born in Barbados, West Indies, he was the son of the late George and Erleen (Lewis) Field. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1956-1966 on the H.M.C.S Magnificent, Bonaventure, Lauzon, and Chaleur. He moved back to Trinidad, West Indies with his wife and girls in 1966 until 1973 when they returned to Canada to settle in Louisdale, Nova Scotia. He was employed by the Nova Scotia Power Corporation in Port Hawkesbury. He is survived by his wife Yvonne (Samson) Field, daughters Erleen (Paul) Sampson (Louisdale, NS), Heather (Mort) Samson (Dartmouth, NS) and Adele (Richard) Petri (Stonewall, MB); grandchildren Ian, Elysia, Sherri, Allison and Tanner; great grandchildren Brea, Norah and Luke; brother Ronnie (Anne-Marie) Field, Trinidad, sister Dorothy McNamee, Ontario, brother-in-law Jeffrey Henderson, Trinidad, West Indies; and many nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to Alan. A good barbecue and family get together, as well as listening to calypso music and growing his beautiful roses each year, were among his many treasured times and memories! He was predeceased by his sister Carol (Field) Henderson, Trinidad, West Indies and brother-in-law Jeff McNamee, Ontario. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 24th from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the Glen Sampson Room at St. Louis Parish Church, Louisdale. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday July 25th at 2:00 pm at St. Louis Parish Church, Louisdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association, The Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Society, the Glen Sampson Room or to St. Louis Parish Cemetery Fund. The family would like to express their appreciation and thank you to Alan's amazing medical teams at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, the Cape Breton Cancer Centre in Sydney and the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston for their care and compassion over the last two years. The family also want to express a very special thank you to Dr. James Collins, Alan's family physician who was always there for him. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H.
