Obituary of Donnie Burt

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Donnie Burt, age 56, who died suddenly at home on August 12, 2014, in his hometown of Louisdale, Cape Breton Island. Donnie was hard-working and well-liked. He commuted from Nova Scotia to Alberta to work as a Millwright for various companies since 2005, and was described as "one of the nicest people to work with" by many of his co-workers. He loved helping others, and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. He volunteered as a member of the Strait Area Ground Search & Rescue for 15 years. He was happiest while working in his home-made sawmill in his back yard, and one of the projects he was most proud of was building a canoe from scratch. He enjoyed taking his youngest daughter on canoe rides down the brook behind his house. Other hobbies he enjoyed included hunting, fishing, and archery, an interest he shared with his oldest daughter. He was taken from us too soon, and will be dearly missed. We invite all friends and family to attend a celebration of Donnie's life on August 25th at St. Louis Parish in Louisdale. Cremation has already taken place. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Glen Sampson room, and the memorial service will be held at 2 PM, with a reception at the adjacent hall to follow. Father Angus McDougall will be officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Brenda; daughters, Lesley and Ashley; sister, Claudia; and brothers, Melvin, Richard, Alfie and twin Ronnie. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Beatrice; brother, Raymond; and sister, Joyce.
