Obituary of Margaret Mary Terrio
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Mary (Mimi) Connor Terrio, 97, died peacefully June 10, 2015 at the Richmond Villa surrounded by her family. Mimi was born in Plumstead, England, on December, 23, 1917 to Edward Connor and Ada Maude Gilling. Her mother passed away in 1918 of influenza. Mimi was subsequently adopted by her Uncle Fredrick & Aunt Margaret Connor and raised as their only child. At five years of age she moved with her parents to France and grew up in Paris. She attended boarding school in Brussels at Notre Dame du Roule and at St. Joan of Arc's Convent in Rickmansworth, England. Mimi completed R.N. training at St. Nicholas Lee Hospital, Plumstead, graduating in 1939. The first day after being transferred from St. Nicholas Hospital to Southern Hospital in Dartford Kent, in July 1940, Mimi met her soul mate, Arthur. They married in April of 1942. The first two of their ten children, Lawrence and Terrence were born to them before the war ended. In 1946 Mimi and her two sons left England on the Queen Mary to join Arthur in Canada landing with other war brides at Pier 21 in Halifax. She took up residence with him in D'Escousse raising a family of ten children; Lawrence (Genora), Terrance (Diane), Bernard (Gen), Marie Louise ( Silver Don), Patrick (Carolyn), Margaret (Ed), Christopher (Cindy), Joseph (Susan), Mark (Tracy), Lillian (Phil). She was Nana to 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grand children. Mimi will be remembered for her tireless determination to affect change and growth in her community. She volunteered with many organizations such as, the C.W.L., D'Escousse Civic Improvement Society, Strait Richmond Advisory Committee, Strait Richmond Palliative Care, Credit Union, R.C. Legion, and as a facilitator with the Christopher Leadership Program, to name but a few.
She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren for her consistency and constant support. She was a champion for each of us, and a reliable prayer warrior for our happiness and well being. By her friends she will be remembered for her love of all things classical and especially as the host of musical evenings in her home. By her church family she will be remembered for her love and fierce commitment to her faith. Many would agree that if Mimi's "axis mundi" was her faith, her desire to maintain contact with family, friends and acquaintances through the lost art of letter writing was a close runner up as her remaining collection would have to be weighed, not counted. Mimi is predeceased by her husband Arthur Edward and her daughter Marie Louise (Lulu); brothers Hugh and Jack; daughter-in-law, Verna. Visitation will be held in C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat on Friday from 2 - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to Celebrate the Life of Mimi will be held Saturday morning at 10 in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial to follow in St Hyacinth Cemetery in D'Escousse. Following the committal a reception will be held at the Civic Improvement Hall in D'Escousse. Memorial donations can be made to Pro Life, Richmond Villa Activity Fund or to the charity of one's choice.
