Those whose lives she touched will not soon forget Edwina’s contribution to the community. Words can never put into perspective the sorrow and emptiness that is suffered at such a loss as yours. I do hope your pain is eased somewhat by knowing that others too feel sadness and want to share that very heavy burden. My prayers are with you. Sincerely, Rodger Cuzner, M.P., Cape Breton-Canso

A flood of thoughts and emotions have filled my head and heart since the day I learned that Edwina’s days were numbered. Victor, Joy and Evan, I am so thankful for all the joy and love you poured into Edwina these many years. May the hole in your hearts today, which we all share with you, soon be filled with all those great and happy memories of your wife / mother, not the least being her zest for life, a contagious gift she lavished on everyone she met. Three years older than me, Edwina was among the first of my childhood role models, especially in my pre-teen Petit De Grat summer vacation years. I have always looked up to her as an older sister, and for good reason. She taught me how to fish with snail bait for “pluggoi” off Pepe’s wharf, how to swim the breast stroke in the chilly waters of Petit De Grat harbor (I still am trying to master her kick), how to get those jellyfish tentacles off me, how to peel open and eat “fern roots” in the fields above her house, what berries were good to eat, how to jump from the highest loft of the barn into the hay below, and, yes, even how to smoke! She taught me the coolest places to “appear invisible” in hide-and-seek until “Ma Tante Felicite” and Leah, returning home early from Bingo one evening, caught me tightly wedged between the ceiling and the top shelf of the stove. (“Edwina did it first,” I sobbed.) But by far my most lasting memory of Edwina will be the caring, forever mischievous, soul-searching smile she always greeted me with, a memory which I somehow have come to depend on, and which I’ll forever miss seeing in person.
Joy, Evan, Vic and family, The surreal nature of this whole situation is beyond words. Looking back I realize that Edwina gave me so much more than I could ever have repaid back to her. Then again, she wouldn’t have wanted that. I am very blessed to have been able to say goodbye and to thank her for everything she did for me, especially to make me feel welcomed and at home for all the times I was hanging around the house. She said to me that day, "Don't be afraid," and I'm not because I know I will see her again at the end of all things. I can’t be there, but I am there in spirit with all of you, holding the family close to my heart in prayer. All my love and sympathy. Ann Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light upon her. May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
To the family of Edwina Boudreau: Dear friends: What are we to say to people who have lost such a wonderful human being? One thing is certain, she is now at peace, no more suffering, no more pain, no more worries, etc .... No doubt that she didn't want to leave this life, however, in this matter we have absolutely nothing to say. We question but the answers are few ........ I will always remember her smile, how she received people. To all those who took such good care of her up to her final passing, I do extend a "Special Thank-You" because it is in those moments that we need to be reassured and loved. Edwina received it all .......... God bless all of you and our prayers are with you. Marie-Louise Samson
