I was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Élodie. Also left to mourn are my brothers Herman (Norma), Arichat; David (Donna), Whiteside; sisters, Delia White, Medford; Delima (Elmer) Scanlan, Whiteside; Claire (Hubert) Doyle, Lockside; brother-in-law, Clem Landry, Little Anse and extended family brother in law Charles Boudreau Petit de Grat; sisters in law Louise (Barry) Marchand, Magdalen (Vernon) Samson both of Petit de Grat, Sister Gloria Boudreau, Sister Sylvia Boudreau both of Moncton, Anne Boudreau, Poulamon and Jonathan Osmond. I was born in Little Anse, Nova Scotia on July 22, 1935 to Hyacinth and Clara (Samson) Boudreau. At the age of 16, I left home for Halifax in search of work. In 1954, I joined the Royal Canadian Navy and I served until 1960. I was honored to be one of the founders and first Commanding Officer of the RCSCC 235 Arrow Sea Cadet Corps. I served in various positions for several summers at HMCS Acadia, Cornwallis. I was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 150. In 1968, I enrolled in a teaching program and I subsequently taught Cooking at IMDH and in Vocational Institute of Technology. Pursuing my love of cooking, I completed a Master Chef Program and was awarded the designation ‘Chef de Cuisine’.
I once owned and operated Chez Gordon Bakery, Chez Gordon Insurance, New Gord Enterprises and Chez Gordon Funeral Home. In all my business ventures, I could always depend on my good friend Gerard LeBlanc.
My most cherished moments were spent with family and friends, whether camping, Snowbirding in Florida, in the kitchen preparing meals and at the card table for a friendly yet competitive game of poker.
My greatest wish is that my children and their families continue to share in friendship and in love and that they remain close for the rest of their lives. Your mom and I have left you a legacy, a Marina/boat house, for family gatherings and pure enjoyment.
As per my wishes, my body has been donated to Dalhousie Medical Science.
Thanks to Dr. Debbie Marchand, our family doctor, Ashley Lavandier, Hattie Samson and to the team of Continuing Care/Home Support/Palliative Care. My family’s heartfelt thanks to Dr. Steven DeRoche whose compassion and dedication allowed me to remain at home until the end. We are forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 235 Arrow Sea Cadets or to St. Joseph’s Renovation Fund.
Visitation will take place at CH Boudreau Funeral Home on Sunday, January 13, 2019, from 6-9 pm.
