Obituary of Lester Gerard Berthier
Please share a memory of Lester Gerard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lester Berthier, on April 6, 2023, at the age of 59 following a brief but courageous battle against lung cancer.
Lester is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie; her son Christian and his wife Helena; siblings Jerome Berthier (Alvina), Lisa Berthier, Jacinta Brennan (Max); his niece Chantal Bourgeois (Marc); goddaughter Jayden Boudreau; best friend Chet Boudreau (Denise); aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Muriel (Samson) and Abraham Berthier, his grandparents, many aunts and uncles, his devoted godparents Berthilda and Nicolas Boudreau, as well as friends and mentors.
Lester grew up in Petit de Grat, Cape Breton, where the woods and the water were his playground. He moved to Halifax where he worked for the Department of National Defense for 29 years as a Weapons Technician. While his heart was always in Cape Breton, it was in Halifax that Lester found his soul mate in 2012. They married in 2015 and moved to their dream home in West Bay, Cape Breton in 2021. An avid fisherman, hunter, and collector; he will be fondly remembered most for his love of family, nature, music, food, and always doing things in his particular way - the right way.
The family wants to extend our most heartfelt appreciation and thanks for the wonderful care and treatment Lester received from his extraordinary care team since his diagnosis last summer. Special thanks to Dr. Alexander Ednie, the many surgical team members and the incredible health care professionals who work in the Halifax Infirmary ICU and 3rd floor ICU, Victoria General Hospital. The dedication and respect shown to Lester in his care is helping us all to heal our broken hearts.
Visitation for Lester, and his mother who passed away on February 12, will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, 633 Veterans Memorial Dr., Arichat. Their funeral mass will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 15 in St. Joseph’s Church, 14 Boudreauville Road, Petit de Grat. A reception will be held at La Picasse in Petit de Grat.
